The FIA World Council has approved a set of changes to the 2027 power units, and a temporary measure that lets it shorten some Grands Prix by up to four laps to stop cars running out of fuel. The heat engine gains 20 kW with a 5 percent rise in fuel flow, while MGU-K power drops by 50 kW. The energy recovery phase rises to 400 kW and battery capacity increases by 25 percent, aimed at reducing reliance on the electrical side. The budget cap rises by 3 million for 2027 and 2028. Shortening races is a stopgap that ends in 2028, when chassis changes to carry more fuel become mandatory.
